🧠 Market Recap – Week of May 6–10
The S&P 500 snapped a nine-session winning streak but stayed near its April highs, buoyed by optimism around U.S.-China trade talks and a robust jobs report. Despite a modest pullback of 0.5% for the week, stocks closed little changed on Friday as traders braced for clarity from ongoing trade negotiations. Treasury yields crept higher, and Bitcoin soared past $100,000, signaling a mix of cautious optimism and risk-on sentiment.
Last week, our plan highlighted the importance of the 5,646 resistance level, noting it could trigger short-covering if broken. We opened the week at 5,655, dipped to 5,578, then rallied as high as 5,720 before closing nearly flat at 5,659. While the market respected the breakout zone, the tight range suggests indecision ahead of this week’s CPI and retail data catalysts.
Plan for next week: Observe continuation within this rising wedge. Dips to any at 5646 area likely get supported for continuation up to 5762.
